Nov 13, 2008 — Contamination first documented at the adjacent firing range

A 2008 enforcement assessment of the former Winston-Salem Police Outdoor Firing Range (6020 Gun Club Road, next to the proposed plant site) documented lead contamination in soil. A receptor well survey of the area also tested five nearby water wells — the well on 6010 itself (the site now proposed for the asphalt plant) was the only one to exceed the state’s lead standard for groundwater.
